How to choose the right tyres for your car
Index
Tyres are expensive, so it’s important to choose the right ones for your car, and for your style of driving.
So how do you choose the right tyres for your car?
Choose the best tyre you can afford
High quality tyres that are correctly fitted, aligned and regularly rotated allow your car to run at its peak, use less fuel and oil and need fewer tyre replacements.
They may seem expensive now, but when it’s time for the car to be serviced, you’ll be pleased you chose the right ones.
Car type
Consider the type, make and model of your car when deciding on a particular type and brand of tyre. A new car will usually arrive with the manufacturer’s preferred brand and tyre type, so a good practice is to continue to purchase these tyres as replacements.
Your vehicle’s manual will list recommended tyres, and you will usually find a tyre guide on the inside of the driver’s door.
Driving environment
It’s also important to consider the driving conditions. Consider the weather, the types of roads or terrain the car be driven on, and whether the car will be driving in peak-hour city traffic or covering long distances on country roads.
The car dealership, your auto mechanic and local tyre sales centre will offer good advice on which tyres are best suited to your car.
