Does it cost more to tow vehicles on a weekend or a public holiday?
Whether or not you pay more to have a vehicle towed on a weekend or holiday will depend on the service supplier.
You should always check with the towing service before accepting their services as to what charges will be applicable.
Weekends and Holidays
Weekends and holidays generally refer to Saturdays, Sundays and any allocated public holiday. As well as gazetted public holidays, some states and locations may also include local holidays such as local Cup or Show days. So while it may have not been a public holiday when you left home – it may be a holiday in the the area you are being towed from. Many providers will also include hours outside of normal business hours as those which attract a premium. Normal business hours usually include hours between 8am and 5pm but you should always check with the towing provider.
Bookings
If you make a booking before the event a reputable provider should advise you of any penalty rates or charges that will apply. If a service takes place outside of normal hours then the business will have to pay their employees overtime so a higher cost will usually apply and the cost will be passed on to you.
As with all services it is important to check what the cost will be before you sign an agreement or verbally agree to a service. Remember that in some circumstances a verbal agreement is equivalent to a signed contract. If towing services are covered in your roadside assistance agreement, an entirely different set of contractual provisions will likely apply.
