How to declutter your kitchen & keep benchtops clean
Index
What kind of look are you going for in your kitchen?
Minimalist, with everything in its place behind closed-in wall-hung cabinets? Or do you want to have it all on display with open shelves?
Both are fine choices, but which is best for decluttering your life? Before you call in the kitchen-makeover professionals, have a think about what sort of kitchen suits you best.
Open shelf slather
For those of us that find opening cupboard doors a chore, open shelves are the way to go.
They provide easy-access storage for everyday items, plus they let you pretty up your kitchen by allowing you to show off your prized kitchen knick-knacks. It’s a nice, lived-in feel that will suit more old-school kitchens or people who want to know where everything is in one quick glance. A kitchen trolley might even work with this look too.
The downside is that if they’re not organised, you – and everyone else – will know it.
And don’t forget – when you’re cooking up a storm, anything you have displayed on a shelf will quickly get covered in the thin layer of cooking muck as you whip up those delicious feasts.
Closed doors
With this in mind, you might want to consider traditional wall-hung storage. This is not only more versatile, but also allows you to get away with being that little bit messy because it’s all hidden away! Win-win.
Of course, there are no rules – you could also opt for a design that includes a mix of shelves and cabinets, or even consider wall-hung cabinets with glass shelves and glass doors. That way you can still display your favourite kitchen gadgets or glassware, but they’ll be safe from the elements.
And why not finish of the look with some slick display lighting inside the cupboards so you can really make a show of it?
Too many options? Why not contact an interior designer in your area to find out how you can make the most of your kitchen space?
