What kind of metals can I recycle?
Index
Current concerns about energy and sustainability are affecting the way we live, in the home, the workplace, and in society generally.
Being green is becoming more important than ever, and recycling is one of the best and easiest ways you can be environmentally friendly. There are many metals that are recyclable rather than being dumped in a landfill.
The most common and familiar scrap metal that can be recycled is aluminium. Most soft drink cans and many other products are made from aluminium. Recycling aluminium only takes 5 per cent of the energy required to produce new aluminium. Steel is another metal that can be recycled, and that includes stainless steel. Recycled steel can be used to make beams, frames, cans and many other items. Many scrap metal merchants have established steel prices they will buy steel for.
Copper is the other main metal that can be recycled. Copper wire and pipes can be recycled to create new copper wire, even if it’s insulated wire. Again, scrap metal dealers have good copper prices. Other metals that can be recycled, and which attract reasonable metal prices, include lead, brass, nickel, and of course gold and silver.
