Where to get your motorbike serviced
Index
Should you go back to the manufacturer to get your motorbike serviced?
While manufacturers generally have your best interests in mind when it comes to recommendations about servicing, parts and accessories for your bike, that doesn’t mean you should always go back to them for servicing.
Manufacturers will usually recommend you get your motorbike serviced by their licensed dealers or buy parts and accessories only from them. However, there are alternatives, especially if you have the know-how to DIY or are willing to shop around.
Warranties
However, if your motorbike or scooter is still under warranty, it’ll pay to use the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you don’t, you risk voiding the warranty.
When the warranty period is over you’ll have to pay for all servicing and parts yourself. As there is a very competitive marketplace for mechanical repairs, it’s a good idea to shop around.
You can find motorcycle repairs and servicing in the Yellow Pages, here.
Insurance
But before you head to your local motorcycle workshop, you might want to read your insurance policy. Some insurers stipulate that for your cover to be effective, you have to have your motorcycle serviced at a registered garage – in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
If you’re looking to buy a motorcycle, make sure you’re well aware of any warranties or insurance conditions that will determine where you should get your bike serviced.
