Do I need to provide house cleaning supplies to my cleaner?

In most cases – for domestic cleaning – your cleaning service will use your cleaning supplies and equipment. You can negotiate for them to use their own equipment and supplies – but you are likely to pay a premium for this.

You might think that a home cleaner will have a scrubbing brush to hand, but they don’t!

Most domestic cleaning services will expect to use your cleaning supplies and equipment. If you’d rather they bring their own, that’s fine, but they will probably ask for more than the standard rate when it’s time to pay.

Before you organise a professional home cleaner, you can get an idea about what’s likely to be included in the standard rate here.

What cleaning supplies do I need to provide?

The stock-standard cleaning supplies you have in your home should be enough for a decent clean. Although it can’t hurt to ask the cleaning service you hire if there is anything specific they might like. If you’re keen to have your home cleaned without using chemicals, check with your service provider to see if they are happy to accommodate this. You can find our more about using natural cleaners here.

Generally if there is anything extra your cleaner needs, or if you run out of something, they’ll let you know.

Common cleaning supplies include:

  • Multi-purpose surface spray
  • Toilet cleaner
  • Dishwashing detergent
  • General purpose detergent or floor cleaner

What cleaning equipment do I need to provide?

Your cleaner may choose to bring some equipment with them that makes the job easier, quicker and more effective, but that’s up to them – the equipment you have in your laundry cupboard should be enough to ge the job done.

If there is something extra your cleaner needs, if something needs replacing or doesn’t work effectively – like a dodgy old vacuum for example – you’ll need to replace it or pay them a little extra to bring their own.

Common cleaning equipment includes:

  • Sponges
  • Dish brush or scourer
  • Broom and mop
  • Vacuum cleaner and bags
  • Dusters

Ask your cleaner if they need any more equipment to get the job done. If you’re looking for a great home cleaner, start your search here.
