How often does my pet need grooming?
Index
Pets, like any other member of the family, need grooming fairly regularly as part of their pet care. But how often do they need to be groomed?
There are no hard and fast rules about how often your dog or cat is groomed; it really depends on their size and whether they’re an indoor or outdoor animal. Cats are good at grooming themselves, but if they are long-haired, a weekly brush is enough to keep their hairballs under control. Brushing for both cats and dogs is good pet grooming, as it helps remove dead skin and fur from their coat, and assists their natural hair oils spread. Regular dog grooming appointments will keep your dog’s coat looking healthy and clean.
Bathing your pets is also good grooming practice – more so for dogs rather than cats. If your dog is an indoor pet and sleeps on your bed or lounge furniture, a weekly dog wash is a good idea, for hygienic reasons. If they spend a lot of time outdoors, fortnightly or even less frequent bathing isn’t a bad idea. If your dog’s coat needs more attention, clipping their coat every four to ten weeks is a good measure. Cat clipping is best done less often; maybe once every three months, especially in warmer months.
