How often should your premises be cleaned?
Index
While all premises should be cleaned on a regular basis, some premises, depending on the type of business and services they deliver, need to be cleaned more often and at a higher standard than others.
For example, businesses in the food service industry must, at all times, maintain their equipment and premises to the sanitary standards as required by the Food Standards Code. Businesses involved in food preparation have a duty of care to their customers as well as employees to ensure the highest standards are maintained. Offices, however, are not held to the same standard because food and beverages are not handled on the premises.
Offices should implement a routine cleaning schedule to maintain an ongoing level of cleanliness. Depending on the size of the office and the number of employees, an office should be cleaned at least 2 – 3 days per week and many have fulltime cleaners ensuring toilet and office kitchen areas are cleaned throughout the day.
Many small to medium-sized offices engage cleaning services at least once a week. Often commercial cleaners will periodically do a more extensive clean including steam cleaning of carpets, car park and windows. There services are often conducted on a quarterly basis.
